		      Sidney Owen Martin, 76, of East Palatka, died March  2, 2003, at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville following a brief  illness. He was born in St. Augustine, having grown up in Elkton, and had been  a resident of East Palatka, coming from Alexandria, Va., 23 years ago. 
  
		      He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served aboard the U.S.S. Portland during  World War II. He retired from the Metro Transit System in Washington, D.C. as a  supervisor in 1978 following 31 years of service. He was a member of the  Transitworker Union in Washington, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Association  and an avid fisherman.
  
		      Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Masters Funeral Home. 
		      
		      Officiating:  Rev.  Gene Maddox. 
		      
		      Calling hours: Thursday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Masters  Funeral Home Chapel. 
		      
		      Burial: Interment with military honors bestowed by  the U.S. Navy will follow in Pellicer Creek Cemetery.
  
		      Survivors: One son, Owen Martin, Palatka; his adopted mother, Edna Hunter,  Elkton; brother, Jimmy Alford, Pensacola; five sisters, Mary Lee Blackburn,  Jacksonville, Alrie Conrad, Louisville, Ky., Joyce DuPont, Federal Point, Daisy  Peek and Irene Workman, both of Milledgeville, Ga.; two grandsons and numerous  nieces and nephews.
