The life of Nancy Powell of Palm Coast will be celebrated on Thursday, October 2, 2014, 11:00AM at the First AME Church of Palm Coast, 91 Old Kings Rd. N. Interment of her cremated remains will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Powell passed away on September 24, 2014. She was born on December 23, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY. to the late Hulen and Lillian Riley (Johnson). She worked as a secretary for the New York City Transit Authority.

In 1991, she and her husband, Samuel, moved to the Palm Coast area from Queens, NY. Her memberships included The First AME Church of Palm Coast where she was active in the choir, Member of the NAACP, New York Transit Authority Retiree Association, The Palm Coast African American Cultural Society and a member of Cards and Such Organization. Mrs. Powell enjoyed playing cards, bowling and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Powell in 2010 and her son, James E. Hayes Jr. in 2002.

Survivors include her granddaughters, DeAnne  F. Hayes of Huntsville, AL., Monique S. Hayes of Miami, FL., brother, Isaac Riley of Norfolk, VA., and sister, Shamyeia Riley of Newport News, VA; and her loving companion, her dog Sandi.

Donations in her memory may be made to the First AME Church of Palm Coast.
