(Betty) Nigro, 89, of Jacksonville FL, a former resident of Palm Coast passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Legacy of St. Johns. She was born on July 21, 1926 in Glen Cove NY a daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Murphy. She grew up in Glen Cove, Long Island where she raised a family of 4 kids.

In 1991, she moved to Palm Coast, FL where she enjoyed walks on the beach, playing bingo, knitting, crocheting and other crafts and traveling. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the K of C Auxiliary and the NY Club. She loved to laugh and make many happy memories hosting family gatherings at her home. Gram made all of grandchildren feel special. She was an excellent cook who made the best lasagna in town! In recent years she was a resident of the Legacy of St. Johns where she was an active participant in all the activities and especially loves the musical entertainment.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alfred L (Freddie) Nigro, her son, Tommy and daughter, Betsy Mikel.

She is survived by her son, Alan Nigro and his wife, Diane of Ronkonkoma NY; and her daughter, Elaine Foster and her husband, Jeff of Jacksonville FL; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She may have been short in stature but she was long in love!

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 8 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM in the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S. Flagler Beach. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM in San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, 1718 State Road 13, St. Johns FL where the family also will receive friends an hour prior to the services. Entombment will take place following the mass in Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens.
