Robert H. Jones of Ormond Beach, Florida died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Florida Memorial hospital in Ormond Beach following complications during open heart surgery. He was 77 years old.

Robert was born in Neptune, NJ in 1934 but lived most of his young life in Bay Head, NJ with his mother Alice M. Jones, deceased and his brother, Edward L. Jones of Brooksville, Florida. He attended Monmouth College in New Jersey as an undergraduate and earned an M. Ed. in Education from the University System of NH -Keene State College.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Baynton Jones of Ormond Beach; his son, Robert Everett Jones of Deltona, Florida; his daughter, Cindi Jones Ferguson and her husband, Brett H. Ferguson of Cornelius, NC; and his granddaughter, Chelsea Lee Ferguson of Concord, NC.

Married in Red Bank, NJ in 1955, he and Shirley lived in many locations throughout their 56 year marriage including Brattleboro, VT, Purchase, NY, Hampden-Sydney, VA and Ormond Beach, FL. Bob headed up the Chamber of Commerce in Brattleboro, VT in the 1960's and was the town moderator. He was a member of the Brattleboro Rotary Club. He later entered the field of higher education and was an educational administrator throughout the rest of his career. He was Dean of Admissions at Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY where, as an officer of the college, he granted degrees to both his daughter and his wife. After 5 years at Manhattanville he became the Dean of Admissions and later Senior V.P. at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Mr. Jones retired from Hampden -Sydney after 15 years and moved to Ormond Beach.

He was an avid bridge player, history buff, played golf, and was an incredible sports enthusiast. In Brattleboro, VT he was a sports announcer on the local radio station for high school football, little league, and other sports. He was always very involved with his children's sports and either coached or attended every one of their games or matches. Bob had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humor. He enjoyed travel and he and Shirley were able to travel to Europe, Asia, North and South America, and extensively throughout the United States. The family would like to thank each and every one of their friends and family who have been supportive through this difficult time. Bob will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, 2:00PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. South, Flagler Beach, FL. Friends may call, Saturday, December 3, 2011, 1:00PM until service time.
