Raymond Leonard Johnson

A funeral service for Raymond Leonard Johnson, 78, of Kissimmee, FL, formerly of Joliet, IL, will be held on Friday, December 30, 2011, 2:00PM at the chapel of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Flagler Beach, Florida. Interment will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Friends may visit on Friday, from 1:00 PM until time of the service.

Raymond passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice.
He was born on May 22, 1933 to Leonard Hilman Johnson and Mary May (Perona).

As a young man he served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne (Paratrooper). He worked as a steel worker for many years retiring early and owning his own business. Raymond attended the YMCA in Joliet, IL and Omni Health Club. He was very physically fit enjoying running and weight lifting. He was also a member of The National Rifle Association and an active member of The Toastmasters’ Club in Kissimmee, Florida.

Raymond loved his wife and children and always encouraged his family to be “together forever.” He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him and will be remembered for his life motto: live, love, and laugh. Raymond also encouraged family and friends with his words of wisdom, “Courage propels you to do what is right in difficult times.”

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanette Marie Coley in 2000, his wife Catherine Elvina Johnson in 2003, and his sister, Jean Marie Reilly in 2009.

Survivors include his children: Cathie Rae Willis of Wilmington, IL, Mary Michelle Petersen of Wilmington, IL, Diana Jean Stasik of Baytown, TX, Raymond Leonard Johnson Jr. of Middleburg, FL, Samuel David Johnson of Tampa, FL, 24 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care and trust of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
