A funeral service celebrating the life of Alva “Johnny” Roland Henry, 65, of Palm Coast will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 11:00AM at the First AME Church of Palm Coast, 91 Old Kings Rd North. Friends may visit on Friday, April 8, from 4:00-8:00PM at the chapel of Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd., S. Flagler Beach.

Alva passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Halifax Health Medical Center. He was born in Jamaica on October 18, 1945 to the late Richard Henry and Catherine Burrell.

His career accomplishments include being a computer analyst with Crum and Foster in Morristown, NJ, a sales representative with Lincoln Mercury Dealerships in both NJ and Daytona Beach and most recently he was part owner of Melissa’s Subs and Grill in Bunnell.

Alva and his wife moved to the Palm Coast area from Piscataway, New Jersey in 2006. He was a member of the United Caribbean Cultural Association of Palm Coast. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music, cooking and spending time with family and friends. It was truly his delight to engage in “spirited” conversations with anyone who accepted the challenge and he will always be remembered as “Johnny the Entertainer.”

He was preceded in death by his daughters, Andrea Henry in 1988 and Georgia Hope in 2005.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Avis “Blossom”; daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Garry Horne of Albany, NY; son-in-law, George Hope, of Plainfield, NJ; brother, Errol Young, of Montclair, NJ; sister and brother-in-law, Maureen and Anthony Franks, of Montclair, NJ; sisters, Sonia Young and Dawn Young, of Montclair, NJ; grandsons, Brenton and Justin Horne of Albany, NY; niece, Audra Franks, of Washington, DC; nephew, Gregory Jarrett, of Montclair, NJ; grandnephew, Kumar Ghafoor, of East Orange, NJ, grandniece, Yalanis Jarrett, of Montclair, NJ and a host of other relatives. He will particularly be missed by the many neighbors and friends who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your charity of choice in Alva’s memory.
