PALM COAST -- Harold Dale Combs, 66, of Sanchez Avenue, who owned Atlantic Ocean Gifts in Ormond-by-the-Sea before his retirement, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell. 

Mr. Combs was born in Tulsa, Okla., and came to this area in 1954 from West Palm Beach. In the 1960s, he acquired an 87-pound fossilized chambered nautilus estimated to be about 275 million years old, one of the largest and best preserved such specimens in the world. He was an avid fisherman. 

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Lou Combs; four sons, Dale, Flagler Beach, Ellis, Palm Coast, Gerald, Belleview, and Dennis, Fanning Springs; five daughters, Rosa Tussings, Mary Combs and Heather Combs, all of Palm Coast, and Rita Haney and Tracy Hayes, both of St. Augustine; a brother, Ellsworth, Pocahontas, Ark.; two sisters, Lynette Miller, Ormond Beach, and Geraldine Taylor, West Palm Beach; and 21 grandchildren.
