Monica Chisholm, 79, of Palm Coast, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at The Renaissance Assisted Living Facility in Deerfield Beach, in South Florida. Her son Michael and his wife Phillipa was by her side at passing.

She was born December 23, 1931 in Kingston Jamaica, the daughter of Septimus Millwood and Ina King. Mrs. Chisholm, during her early years in Jamaica was a dressmaker by profession until she migrated to Canada where she resided in Quebec for several years, before relocating to New York City, New York. She worked with New York Telephone Company (now Verizon) and finally moved to Seminole Woods, Palm Coast in 1990.

After settling in Palm Coast, Mrs. Chisholm attended Daytona Beach Community College and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and was employed with Interim Healthcare of Jacksonville for a number of years before finally retiring. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, entertaining, cooking, cultivating fruit trees, travelling, especially going on cruises, and spending time with her friends and family especially her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Palm Coast United Methodist Church, where she was a very active participant in church activities. While living in New York City, she enjoyed assisting in charitable fund-raisers, and would prepare and assist in serving meals to the homeless and needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She continued her community support efforts during the bush fires and evacuation that occurred in Palm Coast a few years ago.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise, great-grandson, Christopher Jr. and former husband, George Alfred Chisholm.

She is survived by her son, Michael Simpson, and his wife Phillipa Sewell-Simpson of Boca Raton, Florida; her brother, Walter Wilson and his wife Zeta of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren, Christopher, Khalil (USMC), Bradley, Toniann; and three great-grandchildren - one of which was born this week on July 22, 2011; and in addition numerous close friends and acquaintances.

Family and friends can attend the visitation/viewing at Craig Flagler Palms Funeral Home, in Flagler Beach on Friday, July 29, 2011 during the hours of 5PM-7 PM. Funeral services and celebration of her life and legacy will be held at Palm Coast United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2011, where viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, Palm Coast, FL.
