THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, August 16, 1923
Death has claimed another of' Bunnell's good souls, Mrs. Margaret Songer, mother of, Mrs. Ernest Johnston, who had been a long sufferer from malignant rheumatism and for many weeks almost helpless from the ravages of the disease, passed into the great unknown Saturday morning shortly after 6 o'clock.
Mrs. Songer was greatly loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a member of the Methodist church and as a worker in the ranks of the Ladies Aid, while she was yet able to do so, rendered of her best to the cause. She was an honored member of the Eastern Star and one of its most enthusiastic workers until her health failed. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances in every walk of life, and her demise was truly mourned by the entire community.
Mrs. Songer was in her 71st year. She is survived by two sons, one a resident of Ohio and one residing in Michigan, and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Johnston, with whom she has made her home for the past seven years. She was a native of Anna, Illinois.
Funeral services were in charge of L. A. Jett, director, the sermon over her remains, being preached by Rev. H. E., Partridge of the local Methodist church. The pallbearers were: Messrs. D. M. Deen, Robert Deen, William Timgren, Dr. J. L. Johnson, J. T. Anglin and Mr. Friar.
At the grave the Order of Eastern Star took charge of the funeral and their most solemn and impressive' services were held as the casket was lowered into the grave at Espanola Cemetery, Mrs. George Moody reading the oration. The various parts were rendered with shaking voices attesting the esteem in which the good woman was held, and at the conclusion of the ceremonies a brief prayer and benediction was said by Rev. Partridge.
So ended the last hours of a lovable old lady who has lived, as she died -- a devout Christian, a loving mother and splendid neighbor. And her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
