THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, January 23, 1941
W. J. B. Shull, 84-year-old uncle of C. D. Hance, was found dead in about two feet of water in a ditch at the intersection of Lambert Avenue and Cherry Street this morning by friends of the Hance family. No inquest was held because officers said it was apparent the man accidentally drowned.
He was a native of Beaufort, S. C., and had been living at the home of Mr. Hance for six months recuperating from a paralytic stroke suffered some time ago. It appear to officers investigating that Mr. Shull left the Hance home in the early hours of the morning and probably fell into the water where he drowned.
Before retiring several years ago because of poor health, Mr. Shull was a construction contractor for a long period of years. He was a member of the Masons and Odd Fellows.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. Elmore of South Carolina, and one son, W. T. Shull of New Orleans.
At a private funeral held at the graveside, Mr. Shull was buried temporarily in Espanola Cemetery.
Temporary burial was made, it was stated because his only son recently suffered a paralytic stroke and was not able to make the trip here. It is understood, that the body probably will be removed to the family burial ground in South Carolina when his son's health permits.
