BUNNELL COMMISSIONER PAUL FELL DIES AT 55
	        by Seth Robbins, Staff Writer
A beloved Bunnell City Commissioner died Sunday morning, leaving behind a legacy that he served on every board the city had to offer.
Paul R. Fell, 55, died from complications due to cirrhosis of the liver at Shands Hospital in Gainesville about 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning.

He had been hospitalized since at least last week and missed two City Commission meetings.

City Commissioner Catherine Robinson said Fell's wisdom and wit would be missed.

"He always liked to make the statement for the public," she said, "to make sure the public knew what we were discussing or what we were going to vote on."
Fell began his career at the Volusia County Health Department, where he worked for about 25 years as a biomedical waste coordinator.
He served on the Bunnell City Commission for three terms.
His first term was in 2000; he returned in 2003, beating out incumbents Flynn Edmonson and Jim Marquis. In 2005, he won reelection unopposed.
A history buff, Fell offered to donate his two-story renovated home, known as Sullivan House, to Bunnell when he died. The house once belonged to William Corbett Sullivan, a Standard Oil dealer in Flagler County, who also was once a city commissioner and city clerk.
Fell said he wanted the city to use the house that he lived in since 1982 for weddings and other events.

Fell is survived by his wife of six years, Doreen and his brother Richard Fell, who lives in Hawaii.
His wife said Fell had many friends who adored him.

"He could always find something good in everybody," she said.
Former City Manager Lyndon Bonner said Fell's biggest accomplishment was getting the commission to examine its responsibility to the community. Bonner noted that Fell served on every board in the city.
"His legacy," he said, "is going to be how much he truly loved Bunnell."

		      MEMORIAL SERVICE SCHEDULED FOR COMMISSIONER
		      by Jim Witters, Staff Writer

BUNNELL - Although nothing appears on its official agenda, the City Commission is likely to discuss its options tonight for replacing Commissioner Paul R. Fell, who died on Sunday.

Fell, 55, died of cirrhosis at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. FELL He served on the commission a total of five years over three terms.

The city charter states that the remaining commissioners must appoint a replacement. Fell's replacement would serve until March, when Fell's term expires.

City Clerk Ronya Johnson said Monday that commissioners are still absorbing the shock of Fell's death. But she said she expects them to discuss Fell and his service to the community during the meeting, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The charter sets no timetable for naming a replacement commissioner, so no appointment is likely today.

Johnson said no one had expressed interest Monday in assuming Fell's duties.

Fell's wife, Doreen and former City Manager Lyndon Bonner have arranged a memorial service for Fell at the United Methodist Church that Fell attended.
