		      DEEN, FREDA MONTGOMERY - Funeral service  for Freda Montgomery Deen, 85, Bunnell, who died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at  Florida Hospital-Flagler, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at First United  Methodist Church, Lambert and Pine Streets, Bunnell, with the Rev. Beth  Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.  today (Tuesday) at the church. 
		      
		      Mrs. Deen was born in Atlanta, Ga., and  spent her childhood in Apalachicola, moving to Bunnell during her high school  years. She was a graduate of Bunnell High School and an active member of many  organizations, including First United Methodist Church of Bunnell, United  Daughters of the Confederacy, Joseph Eggleston Johnston Chapter, Idlewood Club  American Cancer Society - Reach to Recovery, Volusia - Flagler Unit, Flagler  County Historical Society and Pioneers of Bunnell. 
		      
		      Mrs. Deen was predeceased by her husband,  William Welch Deen Sr., a member of one of the original pioneering families of  Flagler County. 
		      
		      She is survived by son, William Welch  Deen Jr., Tampa; daughter, Delores Regina Deen, Mt. Dora; granddaughters, Caroline  Deen (Jack) Milne, Jacksonville, Kathleen Deen (Juan) Parke New Orleans, La.,  Guy (Shannon) Eure, Atlanta, and Tag Eure, Fredericksburg, Va.; and  great-grandchildren, Emily Irons, Jacksonville, Deen Parke, New Orleans and  Sammy and Brooks Eure, Atlanta. 
		      
		      The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial  donations to The American Cancer Society - Reach to Recovery, Volusia -  Flagler Unit, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona, FL 32119 or First  United Methodist Church of Bunnell, P.O. Box 335, Bunnell, FL 32110.

		      LONGTIME COMMUNITY ACTIVIST, DEEN, 85

		      BUNNELL - Freda Montgomery Deen, 85, a  longtime community activist in Flagler County, died Saturday at Florida  HospitalFlagler after a long illness. 
		      
		      Mrs. Deen was born in Atlanta and moved  to Bunnell from Apalachicola with her family while she was still in high school. 
		      
		      She graduated from the former Bunnell  High School and married the late William Welch Deen Sr., a member of one of the  pioneering families of Flagler County. 
		      
		      She was active in a number of community  organizations, including The Pioneers of Bunnell, The Idlewood Club, The  Flagler County Historical Society, The United Daughters of the Confederacy's  Joseph Eggleston Johnson Chapter, the American Cancer Society-Reach to Recovery  and First United Methodist Church of Bunnell. 
		      
		      From helping out with community projects  to rallying the town against a road-widening project that would have cut down  two old oak trees in front of her home, Mrs. Deen was an effervescent force in  the city. She was always smiling and friendly and worked hard behind the scenes  to improve the city. 
		      
  "We were longtime friends," Bette  McDaniel of Painters Hill said. "The whole community will miss her; they  just loved her. I especially will miss her." 
  
		      Survivors include her son, William Welch  Deen Jr. of Tampa; her daughter, Delores Regina Deen of Mount Dora; and four  grandchildren.
