According to press dispatches, Mell Dean Hooper who is a former resident of Bunnell, was shot and killed in a. roadside tavern 10 miles east of Birmingham, Alabama, last Saturday night. He was employed with the Hooper Construction Company.

Deputy Sheriff J. A. Haynes of the Jefferson County sheriff's office at Birmingham, said that Homer Roddam of Birmingham was being held in the county jail there after Roddam had confessed orally to the shooting.

Haynes said the shooting followed an argument and that Roddam was treated at a local hospital for a three-inch gash on the head.
