THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
	        Bunnell, Florida
	        Thursday, June 22, 1950

William W. Pounds, of DeLand, and employee of the State Road Department, was killed here Monday when a Department truck he was on was hit by a large semi-trailer truck driven by Vernon Higgs of Miami.
Pounds was riding the rear of the light truck picking up "2" irons which had been placed on new center line of U.S. No. 1, when it was hit by the semi-trailer. Pounds was knocked off and apparently dragged along the pavement. The state road truck went into the ditch and was driven by Hubert Henderson, also of DeLand who was not hurt.
The big truck swerved back into the road after hitting the other truck, turned over and skidded along the pavement.
Deputy Sheriff Miller Teters, who investigated the accident, said the body of Pounds was turned over to Garcia Funeral Home in St. Augustine, while Higgs, was charged with manslaughter, given a preliminary hearing and released under a hearing and bound over to the circuit court under a $1,000 bond. The big truck sprawled across U. S. Highway 1 blocked traffic on the artery for more than two hours.
