Paul Franklin Pellicer

Paul Franklin Pellicer was born 05 Dec 1844, St Johns CO, FL, died 10 Oct 1915, St Johns CO, FL, married 06 Dec 1875, Coffee CO, GA. Rebecca Youngblood, dau of Elijah Youngblood and Margaret (Peggy) Davis, born 30 Aug 1853, Coffee CO, GA (probably), died 21 Mar 1935, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL.

According to family legend Paul F. Pellicer served under General Finegan in the Confederacy during the War Between the States. His civil war records show that he enlisted as a private in Company A, 2nd Battalion, FL Inf Reg on 15 Aug 1862 and took the oath of allegiance to the USA on 31 Oct 1864 at City Point, VA and was sent to St Augustine.

He moved to Coffee CO, GA about 1867, married Rebecca and had eleven children according to family records. Paul returned to Florida with his family and settled in the Haw Creek (later St. Johns Park) area in 1903. He was paying taxes according to the 1905 tax roll, on 40 acres in Section 3, Township 13, Range 29 of St Johns County. He was engaged in the logging business in this area, supplying logs for Tom Squiers sawmill, he farmed and was also a cattleman.

The family is listed on page 60 of the 1910 census of St. Johns Co residing in the St. Johns Park area with his occupation given as "Farmer." His widow is listed on page 40 of the 1920 census with her occupation given as "Farmer - General," residing in the St. Johns Park area, however she later moved to Bunnell.

1. Elizabeth Pellicer. Date of birth and death not known. According to family legend, she married and moved to Savannah, died in childbirth and is buried there.

2.Ardella (Della) Pellicer, born 20 Sep 1876, Axon, Atkinson CO, GA, died 08 May 1947, Glendale Hospital, Palatka, Putnam CO, FL, married in GA to J. Barney White, son of Simon Peter White and Alief Griffis, born 03 Jan 1874, Axson, Atkinson CO, GA, died 10 Feb 1935, St Johns Park, Flagler CO, FL.

They were the parents of Murial, Harry Gaines, Clara, Frederick Folks and Spencer Paul White.

3.Paul Jasper (Bubba) Pellicer, born 05 Apr 1878, Axson, Atkinson CO, GA, died 01 Apr 1952, San Antonio, Bexar CO TX, buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL, married Genevieve James, born 1881, IN, died or divorced before Apr 1952 as she is not listed as a survivor in Paul’s obituary.

He worked for Western Union in El Paso, Texas and Waterloo, Iowa, married in Iowa and moved to San Antonio when he retired. Issue;

4. Clarence E Pellicer, born 17 Dec 1879, Axson, Atkinson CO, GA, died 21 Aug 1938, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL, married 26 Apr 1923, New Smyrna, Volusia CO, FL, Agnes B Smith, dau of William English Smith and Jane Padgett, born Nov 1882, Walterboro, Colleton CO, SC, died 22 Mar 1951, Flagler Hospital, St Augustine, St Johns CO, FL, buried Evergreen Cemetery, St Augustine, St Johns CO, FL next to her first husband, George Cornelius McArn.

When Flagler County was created in 1917 he was appointed by Gov Sidney Johnston Catts the first Tax Collector, serving several more terms until 1932. He is bur Pellicer Creek Cern. He is listed on page 10 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given as "Tax Collector" and on page 61 of the 1910 census of S1. Johns County with his occupation given as "Bookkeeper."

She owned a general store in Bunnell and a rooming house, where they resided.

5. Dora Pellicer, according to family legend, died at about the age of 6 and was buried in Coffee CO, GA. (No dates being available she might not be listed in correct birth order).

Laura Lorene Pellicer, born 02 Oct 1883, McDonough or Axon, GA, died 09 May 1966, Bunnell General Hospital, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, married July 1904, Daytona, Volusia CO, GA to Isaiah Hansell Frier, son of Aaron Gaines Frier and Narcissus Smith, born 31 Dec 1870, Lakeland, Lanier CO, GA, died 08 Jul 1940, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

They had three children; Roy Mahue, Wilda Lucille and Paul Hubert (Hub) Frier.

7. Augusta F (Gus) Pellicer, born 08 Jun 1885, McDonough, Henry CO, GA, died 13 Feb 1932, Daytona Beach, Flagler CO, FL, buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery. He was a well driller and also served as a deputy sheriff in Flagler County. In later life he made his home with his sister Laura Frier.

8. Joseph Edward Pellicer, born 13 Feb 1889, McDonough, Henry CO, GA, died 02 Jun 1956, Emory Hospal, Atlanta, Fulton CO, GA, married 12 Sep 1912, Bunnell, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, Martha Keziah Johnston, dau of John Baggs Johnston and Mary Ketus Carter, born 17 Jul 1892, Carterville, St Johns CO, FL, died 31 Mar 1989, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL.

They had nine children, Edward Leroy, Martha Louise, Milton Paul, Claude John, Fannie Beatrice, Joseph Brantley, Eleanor Rebecca (Peggy), Herschel Floyd and Hubert Donald Pellicer.

9. Joseph Leaston Pellicer, born 15 Jan 1891, McDonough, Henry CO, GA, died 30 May 1956, Flagler Clinic and Hospital, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL, married 23 Jun 1922 Dinner Island, Flagler CO, FL to Pauline Mercer, dau of John Christopher Mercer and Nancy Celeta Deen, born 05 Dec 1903, Baxley, Appling CO, GA, died 31 Mar 1988, New Symrna Beach, Volusia CO, FL (Div).

He served in the U S Army in WW I and was aboard a troop ship for France when the war ended and he was discharged. At the time Flagler County was created he was listed as County Road Supt. and Convict Guard. He drove a company tractor doing road work with Isaiah H Frier, moved to Bunnell and was employed as the night watchman for businesses in Bunnell, then was chief of police for the town. He was elected a Constable of Flagler County in Nov 1924 and served in this capacity until his death. Issue;
