Levi Deen, son of Alexander Hamilton Stephens Deen and Sarah Frances Williams, born 26 Apr 1885, Alma, Bacon CO, GA, died 04 Nov 1954, Bacon CO, GA, married, 10 Jun 1904, Appling CO, GA, Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) Barber, dau of Cornelius M (Gib) Barber and Elizabeth Taylor, born 08 Jul 1884, Appling CO, GA, died 05 Dec 1966, Appling CO, GA. Both buried Deen Cemetery, Appling CO, Ga.
It is not known when the family moved to Flagler County but they were found in the 1920 census on page 34 residing in Precinct 4, St. Johns Park, and his occupation was listed as a farmer. He had two uncles, Robert Williams Deen and William Henry (Doc) Deen who were early residents of the area which probably brought them to the county.
They seemed to move back and forth from FL to GA. A story in the Flagler Tribune of Thursday, 23 Dec 1926 states that “Levi Deen, who has a large farm near Alma, GA, is selling the products of his farm in Florida, this town received a part of them each week.
Last week, Mr. Deen sold 194 gallons of syrup and 21 bushels of sweet potatoes, and this week returned with 100 gallons of syrup and 20 bushels of potatoes, all of which will be sold in this immediate territory.
Mr. Deen sated that he anticipated making about fifteen trips into Florida this winter, bringing each time numerous products of his farm.”
The family moved back to Appling CO, GA after their son Lawton was killed by a Negro on their farm here in Jun 1919. Issue;

LAWTON DEEN DIES AFTER BEING SHOT BY DRUNKEN NEGRO
Negro Declared Murderer by Coroner's Jury After Investigation
Lawton Deen, young white man of the Haw Creek community, was shot Saturday night (8 Jun) by a Negro named A White, when White was in a drunken condition, According to witnesses, Mr. Deen had sent to Bunnell by another Negro for some article and had to the Negro house to get them and apparently the ??? was shot by the Negro without provocation.
Deen, who was shot in the abdomen, made his way to the home of Mrs. H W Poff where he fell from exhaustion in the yard. Assistance from Bunnell was sent for and after arrival of several persons from here, according to Dr. Reddin Britt, Deen was carried to a hospital in Daytona Beach, where Deen succumbed Sunday night.
The Negro who shot Deen was arrested soon afterwards by Constable J L Pellicer and lodged in jail here but was moved to St Augustine the next day. After the death of Deen, an inquest was made with Justice M Stone in charge. The corner's jury rendered a verdict of murder in the first degree against the Negro. It was stated by Justice Stone that Deen, before his death, identified the Negro as his assailant.
Levi Deen, of Alma, GA, and father of the dead man, arrived here Sunday afternoon and went to Daytona Beach to claim the body which was taken back to the home of the family for burial.
