John Benjamin Barber, son of Jeptha Barber and Martha (Patsy) Medders, was born 08 Oct 1853, Baxley, Appling CO, GA and died 29 Oct 1933, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. He married Mary Smith, dau of Dennis Smith and Elizabeth Carlisle born 16 Jul 1858, Appling now Bacon CO, GA, died 20 May 1934 Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both are buried in Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.
Mr Barber's farm was located north of the little town of Rockingham, in Appling now Bacon CO, GA. He and his wife were members of Big Creek Baptist Church there. They became permanent residents of Flagler County about 1926, moving here from Appling CO, GA after several of their children became residents of Flagler County. They were the parents of thirteen children;
1. Jeptha Dennis Barber, son of John Benjamin Barber and his wife Mary Smith, was born 18 Sept 1878, Appling CO, GA and died 21 Nov 1971 Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. He was married 28 Dec 1898 in Alma, Bacon CO, GA to Minnie Sweat, dau of Allen Sweat and Mary Jane Taylor born, 15 Feb 1883 Appling CO, GA, died 06 May 1973 Palatka, Putnam CO, FL. 2. Martha Nancy (Mattie) Barber, born 10 May 1880 Baxley, Appling CO, GA, died 10 Jun 1947, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, married 24 Mar 1898, Robert Moody, son of Isaac I. 5. John Marion Barber, born 04 Mar 1886, Baxley, Appling CO, GA, married Bessie Althea Lee. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 23 Dec 1914 at Columbus, OH and was discharged on 25 Aug 1918 to accept a commission. He was commissioned a second lieutenant the following day and was assigned to Company E, 109th Supply Train. Lt Barber was honorable discharged on 30 Apr 1919.
In 1920, he was a watchman at a steel mill in Johnstown, PA and in 1930 was employed as a barber in Detroit, MI. Issue;

(1) George Eugene (Gene) Barber, born 27 Jun 1911, Harwood, Volusia now Flagler CO, FL near Favorita, died 16 Jul 1986, St Johns CO, FL, married 23 Dec 1939, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, Dorothy Marie Cauley, dau of William McDonald (Mac) Cauley and Bertha Maude Bennett, born 28 May 1918, Baxley, Appling CO, GA, died 28 Feb 1998, Flagler CO, FL. He claimed to be the first white baby to be born in Favoriata area at a long-gone "place in the road" called Harwood (George Allen's and Eugene Curey's turpentine station).
He joined the Army at age 32 in 1943. He saw combat on the Normandy beaches on June 6, 1944 and later had some close calls at encircled Bastogne when serving with four-year unit, the 807th Tank Destroyer Battalion of Patton's Third Army. He was with two other GI's coming back to camp when Gen Patton had his fatal accident. Gene said they were about 6 miles away when it happened - when they got to the crash scene, others were getting Patten out of the wrecked card and into an ambulance - he was still conscious and mumbling something as they lifted him ups on a litter
He was the superintendent of the Bunnell Water Works for many years. He retired 30 April 1978 from that position. Gene is buried in Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.
7. Guilford Malcolm Barber, born 19 Mar 1890, Alma, Bacon CO, GA and died 20 Aug 1973, Korona, Flagler CO, FL. He served in the US Navy aboard a destroyer in WW I. He is buried in Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL
